Keith Haring is this week’s UNDER THE HAMMER focus.

He was an American artist who strongly impacted the art world of the 20th century.

Haring had a vision of art opposed to the traditional one, he was convinced art could reach all kinds of people and he became famous by practicing his art in public areas. He started his career by creating bold cartoon-like line drawings on empty poster sites in the New York subway.

Using his art as a social weapon to communicate with the wider audience his key subjects were birth, death, sexuality and war.

Connecting the UNDER THE HAMMER project with his exiting works, Williams decided to use one of his readymades as a canvas to carry a Haring inspired drawing of bullets.

These childish drawings on an old stretcher give this week’s [Un]original piece a heavy meaning and honour both artists’ works.
